Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm

Our skin works hard to protect our bodies, but sometimes it can become very dry, cracked and irritated as a result. It needs SOS care.

Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm gives dry to very dry, cracked and irritated skin the SOS care that it needs. The water-free ointment forms a gentle, semi-occlusive, protective barrier over the skin that supports the natural transfer of water vapour and oxygen to and from the skin, allowing the skin to ‘breathe’ and strengthening its natural protective barrier. The balm is enriched with Glycerin and Panthenol. Glycerin is an effective moisturiser that attracts water and helps to keep it in the skin. It works alongside Panthenol which helps to speed up regeneration and repair while also moisturising skin.

Fragrance- and preservative-free, Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm has been clinically and dermatologically proven to repair very dry, cracked and irritated skin.

The soothing, transparent ointment is easy to apply and massages gently into problem areas of skin such as the knees and elbows, cracked knuckles and cuticles and cracked heels. With only a few ingredients, it is well tolerated by sensitive skin and is suitable for use on babies and children as well as on minor burns and on skin after superficial dermatological procedures such as laser treatments and chemical peels(1). Skin is regenerated, protected and repaired.

(1) Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm should only be used on re-epithelialized skin (i.e. once new tissue has formed) and not on open, wet or bleeding wounds. Ask your Dermatologist for advice on how long you should wait after treatment before using the product.

Main findings

Clinical and dermatological studies on Eucerin Aquaphor demonstrate its effectiveness (both overall and on specific parts of the body) and its skin tolerability (both overall and in terms of being non-comedogenic).
Overall effectiveness A 10-day trial, conducted in clinical conditions with a sample of 25 people aged between 18 and 50, demonstrated that Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm significantly reduced the time that it took for the skin to regenerate.
Effectiveness in treating dry, rough and cracked skin on the hands In a further 7-day clinical study, a sample of 17 people applied Eucerin Aquaphor regularly to one hand while leaving the other hand as a control. The study measured the results clinically using a corneometer (a scientific instrument used to measure skin hydration) and collected feedback from the respondents. The results demonstrated that: The ointment delivers a statistically significant and noticeable improvement overnight to dry skin on the hands With regular use for seven days, the respondents' skin condition continued to improve
Overall tolerability A tolerability study with a sample of 202 people aged between 17 and 65 showed no allergic reactions on using the product, which demonstrated the excellent tolerability of the product.
Non-comedogenic In a further test, a sample of 27 people aged between 19 and 55 used the product at least once a day for four weeks. The dermatologists who evaluated the results concluded that the skin balm is non-comedogenic.

Clinical Formula

Panthenol or Dexpanthenol

Panthenol and Dexpanthenol are two names commonly used for the same ingredient.  Panthenol participates in numerous metabolic processes (e.g. energy production, synthesis of fatty acids) and helps to improve hydration in the outermost layers of the skin. Panthenol converts into Panthotenic Acid (a B-Complex Vitamin) in the skin and enhances skin regeneration and repair. When applied regularly, it has been proven to considerably improve symptoms of skin irritation such as dryness, roughness, scaling and redness. It is also an effective moisturizer. Very well absorbed by the skin, it regenerates, stimulates epithelialisation and wound healing. It alleviates irritation and inflammation.

Glycerin

Glycerin, also called glycerol, is a humectant, which means it helps attract water thereby trapping it in the skin. This makes it a very effective moisturiser, as it both smooths dry skin and gives it long-lasting protection and care. Glycerol is colourless, odourless and non-toxic.

Bisabolol

Naturally occurring in chamomile and other plants, Bisabolol can also be derived synthetically. It has anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory properties and has been used in skincare for many years.

FAQ

How often should I apply Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm?

You can apply Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm as often as you like to soothe and smooth areas of irritated or cracked skin. The handy 7ml jar and the 45ml tube make it easy to pop in your bag and carry around with you wherever you go.

Can I use Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm to care for wounds?

Yes, but the product should not be applied to open, bleeding or wet wounds. Wait until new tissue has formed (the medical term for this is re-epithelialisation) before applying the ointment. If you are in any way concerned about the time a wound is taking to heal, or think it may have become infected, consult your doctor for advice.

Once re-epithelialisation has occurred, Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm creates a protective barrier to support the skin regeneration and is clinically and dermatologically proven to protect and soothe dry, cracked or irritated skin.

Is Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm suitable for use on my baby’s skin?

Yes, the ointment is ideal for use on patches of dry skin on your baby’s face or in the nappy area. It only contains a few gentle but effective ingredients and is fragrance- and preservative-free, and so is suitable for your baby’s sensitive skin. You can find out more in How can I treat areas of very dry skin on my baby?

If your baby has Atopic Dermatitis (commonly known as Eczema), we recommend that you use products from the Eucerin AtoControl range, which have been specially formulated for atopic skin.

    Life changing!
I have been having a horrendous time with eczema on my face and on my eyelids, I’d wake up every morning with my eyes stuck together, I have tried everything and anything to try and find some relief but nothing worked, was even on prescribed creams for 12 weeks. Until now! I used this for the first time last night and I have noticed such a massive difference today. My face is less red, sore and dry. And my eyes weren’t stuck together!
